Mercedes SL63 AMG

amg A car fanatic would tell you that cars maybe of two types. The Fast and The Elegant. For years the Americans have proven their grace in manufacturing speed demons which wimp out on a corner. Cars like the Dodge Viper or the Ford Gt-500 may beat you on a stretch, but find their bulky engines weighing them down on a turn.

The Europeans are how ever been known to manufacture reasonable and yet beautiful looking machines.

Mercedes for some may be a executive car manufacturer but its AMG race division outshines just as well. The AMG tag on a Merc, just like the ‘M’ on a BMW and the ‘SRT’ on a Dodge, specifies its connection with the Grand Turismo section of Mercedes. Technology proven on the track is applied to perfection in the AMG sports engines.

The latest rollout of this heritage is the new Mercedes SL63 AMG.

Its 6.2 litre engine proves to be one of the most powerful V8 engines produced by Mercedes today. The biggest change here is the sighting of AMG’s new gearbox. Based on the Mercedes 7G-Tronic seven-speed auto, the AMG Speedshift transmission blurs the boundaries between the traditional torque converter autos seen in all AMGs and the increasingly sophisticated automated manuals and dual clutch units used by key competitors like BMW M.

Last seen on the Nissan Gt-r , the technology relies on setting the next gear for a quicker shift. The men at Mercedes have done an astounding job in removing the usually jerky gear shifts involved in these type of cars.

The styling involves the usual facelifts giving the car a more edgier look. The interior features a three spoke steering wheel with controls for gearbox modes, the adjustable Active Body Control dampers and the new three-stage ESP system, as seen on the C63 AMG.

All in all the new SL63 AMG seems to be a worthy addition to the Mercedes stable.
